چکیده
As a sequel to another paper of the authors on welding-induced initial deformations [1], this aimed obtain direct measurement database biaxial residual stresses in full-scale steel stiffened plate structure and also study applicability computational models predict them. A association with panels bottom structures an as-built containership carrying 1900 TEU was fabricated using exactly same welding technology as used today’s shipbuilding industry. The X-ray diffraction method employed measure stress distributions plating. In addition simple formula estimations, three-dimensional thermo-elastic-plastic finite element were applied distributions. comparison between measurements, numerical predictions estimations made. Details measurements are documented they can be useful validate formulated by other researchers.

Numerical simulation of transient temperature and residual stresses in friction stir welding of 304L stainless steel
Three-dimensional nonlinear thermal and thermo-mechanical numerical simulations are conducted for the friction stir welding (FSW) of 304L stainless steel. The finite element analysis code—WELDSIM, developed by the authors specifically for welding simulation, was used. Two welding cases with tool rotational speeds of 300 and 500 rpm are analyzed. The objective is to study the variation of transi...
متن کاملeffect of welding residual stresses on performance of steel plate shear wall
the effect of welding residual stresses that was created in thin infill plate of steel plate shear wall system during constructional processes was studied in this research. residual stresses in a welded structure is the result of the non-uniform expansion and contraction and plastic deformation of the weld and surrounding base metal due to heating and cooling cycle, during welding process, this...
متن کاملInfluence of Friction Stir Welding residual stresses on the mechanical behaviour of aluminium stiffened panels
In this work, the longitudinal residual stresses that arise from FSW processes were measured by means of the Contour Method. These residual stresses were then introduced into a numerical simulation model based on the Finite Element Method (FEM), and their effect on the buckling collapse load of aluminium stiffened panels was assessed. The sensitivity of the models to initial geometrical imperfe...
متن کاملResidual Stresses in Friction Stir Welding
Friction stir welding is an innovative joining process being developed for use in aerospace manufacturing. Like most welding processes there exist problems with post-weld residual stresses and subsequent geometrical distortion. The residual stress-state of a welded component can be modified using suitably applied mechanical tensioning and thus distortion can be reduced or eliminated. In the pre...
متن کاملexperimental determination of residual stresses in multi-pass girth welding of thermo-mechanical steel pipe
in this paper, two api x70 steel pipes (with spiral seam weld) of 56 inch outside diameter and 0.780 inch wall thickness were girth welded first. next, hole drilling tests were conducted for strain measurement on the surfaces of the pipes. the values of residual stresses on the internal and external surfaces of the pipe were determined, from strain data using astm 837 standard. the experimental...
